BORN OF STRUGGLE, LIVING IN HOPE: The Anarcho-Punk Lives of the Centro Iberico, 1971-1983 Book

Born of Struggle, Living in Hope: The Anarcho-Punk Lives of the Centro Iberico, 1971?1983 by Nick Soulsby is a book that documents the previously untold history of the Centro Iberico, a pivotal music venue and anarchist hub in London during the post-punk era. The story traces its roots back to the Spanish Civil War and a dedicated anarchist who, after fighting against fascists and enduring imprisonment, found refuge in London. The Centro Iberico became a meeting place for London's anarchist underground and a new generation of punks who embraced the concept of anarchy. The book chronicles its evolution from a political activist center to a creative hub in an abandoned school, and its eventual demise due to the 1980s construction boom. It highlights the venue's role as a key nexus for international political prisoner support and a central location for the anarchist movement in the UK throughout the decade.
