Bedtime for Democracy is the fourth and final studio album by the Dead Kennedys, released in November 1986. The album's title is a play on the 1951 Ronald Reagan film Bedtime for Bonzo, reflecting the band's weariness during the obscenity trial over their previous album's artwork. Musically, it returns to the fast-paced, "thrashy" hardcore style of In God We Trust, Inc. while expanding on satirical themes like Reaganomics, the military-industrial complex, and the internal decay of the punk movement ("Chickenshit Conformist"). The band announced their breakup immediately after its release, making this their fierce and uncompromising swan song.
