DEAD KENNEDYS: Frankenchrist Vinyl LP
Frankenchrist is the third studio album by the Dead Kennedys and stands as one of the most controversial releases in punk history. Musically, it saw the band moving away from straight hardcore toward a more melodic, expansive, and psychedelic sound, featuring synthesizers and even a trumpet. However, the album is most famous for the legal firestorm it ignited; original pressings included a poster of Swiss artist H.R. Giger's "Landscape XX" (also known as "Penis Landscape"), which led to an obscenity trial that nearly bankrupted the band and their label, Alternative Tentacles. Lyrically, Jello Biafra is at his most biting, with the nearly 7-minute closer "Stars and Stripes of Corruption" serving as one of the most comprehensive political indictments in the punk canon.
