JOY DIVISION: Peel Sessions Vinyl LP

$46.95 AUD

Joy Division without Martin Hannett -- rawer, faster, and completely essential.

This LP compiles both of Joy Division's BBC sessions for John Peel, recorded at Maida Vale Studios in January and November 1979. Eight tracks across two sessions: the first catches the band in the months before Unknown Pleasures, with Exercise One, Insight, She's Lost Control, and a version of Transmission where both Ian Curtis and Bernard Sumner play guitar simultaneously -- one of the only recordings where that happens. The second session, recorded in November, includes Love Will Tear Us Apart, 24 Hours, Colony, and Sound of Music, none of which had appeared on album at the time. Without Hannett's production, the band sounds leaner and more direct -- drums forward, Hook's bass leads cutting through clean. These versions don't replace the studio recordings, but they reframe them.
