SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES: The Scream Vinyl LP
The debut that more or less invented a genre before anyone had a name for it.
The Scream (1978) arrived fully formed -- jagged, atonal guitar from John McKay, motorik basslines, and Siouxsie Sioux's icy, commanding vocal presence already operating at full power. "Hong Kong Garden" is the closest thing to a pop song here, but the rest of the record is colder and more abrasive, a direct line from punk's confrontation into the gothic and post-punk movements that followed. Decades on, it still sounds like nothing else from 1978.
